How to Write a Pet Toothpaste OEM Brief

A strong OEM brief reduces quotation errors and prevents formula, packaging and claim decisions from being made in the wrong order. It should describe the commercial product, not just a list of fashionable ingredients.

How to Write a Pet Toothpaste OEM Brief private label development reference
Product-development reference: formula, packaging and commercial requirements are reviewed as one system.
Short answer: Include company and channel information, species, market, intended routine, formula direction, pack specification, quantity per SKU, claims and launch timing.

1. Company and commercial context

State the legal company or brand, website, target channel and current project stage. Suppliers need to distinguish an established sourcing program from an early concept that has no commercial path.

2. Product and species definition

Specify dog, cat or both; toothpaste, gel, spray or kit; fill size; expected use frequency; application method; flavor direction and desired texture. Do not use “pet toothpaste” as the entire technical brief.

Turn the topic into a workable OEM brief.

Share the target species, format, market, pack and quantity for a focused feasibility review.

3. Formula and claim direction

List mandatory ingredients, excluded ingredients and the intended reason for each. Separate required commercial claims from ideas that still need feasibility and market review. Avoid asking a supplier to certify unsupported medical outcomes.

4. Packaging specification

Describe tube or bottle size, nozzle, cap, carton, accessories, decoration method and benchmark images. State whether the benchmark is for appearance, dispensing, texture or market positioning.

5. Quantity and timing

Provide quantity per SKU, not only total range volume. Identify the realistic approval date and launch window. If a custom development package is required, confirm the decision and payment path before requesting repeated laboratory work.

  • Company / brand / website
  • Destination market and channel
  • Species and product format
  • Formula, flavor, texture and claims
