Pet Dental Gel Stability Testing Before Launch

A dental gel is not stable because it looked clear and smooth on the day it was made. The formula must stay usable in its final pack over time.

Short answer: Build the stability plan around the commercial formula and packaging. Monitor physical change, dispensing, microbiology and pack interaction at defined checkpoints.

Start with visible physical changes

Record color, clarity, odor, air bubbles, separation and sediment. Photographs under the same lighting help compare checkpoints. A small change can be acceptable, but the acceptance limit should be written before the test is reviewed.

Track viscosity and dispensing together

Instrument readings are useful, but the pack must also dispense correctly. A gel that becomes thinner may leak from the nozzle. A gel that becomes thicker may string, trap air or require excessive pressure.

Check pH and microbiological control

Where pH is part of the formula specification, trend it during testing rather than checking only at the start. Water-based products also require an appropriate microbiological plan. Test selection depends on the formula and target market.

Use the final packaging configuration

Bulk held in a laboratory container does not answer all packaging questions. The finished tube, syringe or pump can introduce evaporation, seal, staining or compatibility issues. Stability conclusions should identify the exact formula and pack tested.

Scope note: This article covers manufacturing planning. Final specifications, testing and claims depend on the formula, packaging and destination market.
